Jair Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The former head of state was sentenced of plotting a government overthrow in September and sentenced more than over two decades in prison, but he continued under home detention pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a preventative measure after fresh information were revealed.

This involved seeking to disable his tracking device and a call for a demonstration that could facilitate a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Flight Fears

In a filing authorising the detention, the magistrate said information from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's "intention to break the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his escape.

This, it said, would be made easier by the confusion caused by the protest called by his offspring.

His son, Flávio Bolsonaro, who holds office as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his followers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday night.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your homeland, or observe everything from your mobile device there on your couch? I invite you to struggle with us."

He said the gathering would be so followers could seek divine intervention for his well-being and for the return of democracy in our nation."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the magistrate's determination was the possibility of the former president's move to diplomatic missions near the home, considering that the probes revealed a record of planning to seek refuge through a diplomatic representation", a announcement said.
